New Partnership with Giusti Wines

Giusti wines are not new to Alberta. In fact, these Italian wines are known to many Canadians and are loved and supported particularly here in Alberta, thanks to owner Joe Giusti's roots.

We at Aligra are happy to be selling these wines. We look forward to hosting events with Joe and his team at Vintage Trade and the  award winning wines in the coming months once lockdowns are a thing of the past when we can gather to drink great wines together again. We hope you’ll join us!

Giusti Wines

As a boy growing up in Italy, Joe Giusti dreamed about moving to Canada.

He came to Canada when he was 17 with $20 in his pocket and went on to found one of Western Canada’s leading construction companies that has done some $1 billion in business in northern Alberta.

Giusti returned regularly to his native Italy and in 2002 decided to make an investment in the wine industry using funds from his Canadian ventures.

His first purchase was his wife Maria’s family vineyard in Nervesa della Battaglia, a rural village between the hills of Montello and the Piave river near Treviso. Case Rolando, located in the village, is his Head Office where he restored  a very old property used by the Germans as headquarters during both world wars.

The company has expanded steadily and now owns 10 vineyards, with some 70 per cent of his 100 hectares planted with vines.

Giusti has travelled the world to taste the best wine.  He made a commitment to produce top class wines to place at the forefront of the world’s best.

“There is no reason to drink bad wine,” he said. “Great wine comes from the vine with the help of the land and the sun. There is no need to add to it.”

Concerned about pesticides, he experimented with resistant clone stock and says spraying is gone forever.  Resistant clone stock  guard against viruses, fungal and bacterial diseases.

The winery has a capacity to produce two million bottles a year, making five Proseccos and a full range of reds and whites.

Giusti is the largest single owner of Prosecco vineyards in the world, and names all his wines after family members.

“We export to 20 countries and our wines are now being acclaimed by top wine critics,” said the entrepreneur, who inspects his vineyard rows in a Range Rover and keeps his Ferrari for the open road.

“My life has never been work,” he adds. “I’ve always loved what I do, in any endeavour.”

Watch for his portfolio of wines coming to Aligra this month!
